Truancy

A student is considered truant when he/she is absent without parental permission or knowledge. Whan a student appears to be truant, a report will be made to the school social worker who will contact the parents. Truancy is a very serious matter that contributes to low student achievement and may result in school disciplinary action or a school referral to the court.

Dress Code

The dress code and grooming of OCPS students shall contribute to the health and safety of the individual, promote a positive educational environment and not disrupt the educational activities and processes of the school. Minimum standards of dress and grooming are listed in the "Code of Student Conduct" booklet distributed each year.

Attendance

Students are expected and encouraged to be in school on a daily basis. If a student is absent, parent(s) or guardian(s) should notify the attendance clerk before 10:00 AM on the day of the absense. Call the main office at 407-737-1470 extension 2221.

Tardiness

Students arriving at school after 8:45 AM must report, with their parent(s) or guardian(s) to the front office before going to class. When a child is frequently tardy, the school may make a referral to the social worker for a home visit.

A student may be granted an excused absence when the absence is to the educational advantage of the student or due to: 1. Illness, injury, or other in sumountable condition. 2. Illness or death of a member of the student's immediate family. 3. Recognized religious holidays and/or religious instruction. 4. Medical appointments. 5. Please do not allow your child to bring candy, gum, snacks, or sodas to school. If so, they will be taken from the student and not returned until the parent meets with the principal or designee. Matches, lighters, tobacco products, fireworks, ammunition, pocket knives, toy guns, guns or weapons of any kind are not permitted on school property. If a student is found to have any of these items in possession, the item will be confiscated and disciplinary action taken.

 Emergency Drills

Emergency evacuation drills are held regularly and may occur at any time of the day. When an alarm sounds, students are to form a line quickly and walk quietly in single file to the designated exit or area. Upon completion of the drill, the "all clear" signal will be given at which time all students will return to their classrooms as directed by their teacher.
